Rad Power RadRover 6 Plus Review

After a long break, I’m here to review the latest version of well-known e-bike company Rad Power Bikes’ superstar model RadRover: RadRover 6 Plus. At first look you feel that Rad Power Bikes listened to its e-bike enthusiast fans and made upgrades accordingly.

Let’s check the key specs of RadRover 6 Plus then get straight into our review.

Motor & Power

RadRover switched to manifacture its own motors and the motors are still performing good in my opinion. Rad Power Bikes was not known for providing the highest power during the rides but they surely know what they’re doing when it comes to performance and riding smoothness. RadRover 6 Plus is no different in this manner, still I would prefer the Bafang motor ones. The 750W motor RadRover 6 Plus sports is not joking around -while other motors of previous models were giving the feel of 500W. But to achieve the best range, the level of motor power you need to maintain is around 600-650W.

The max speed of pedal assist level of 20 mph but the speed can go up to 26 mph if you bypass the speed limit. Even though it is enough for most riders there are e-bikes which provide more torque. During uphill climbing on steep hills you will the need to assist the motor with pedaling.

RadRover 6 has 5 pedal assist levels with levels 4 and 5 is the highest and almost at the same level.


Suitable for both off-road and on-road riding, RadRover 6 Plus is a Class 2 e-bike with semi-integrated battery. To be honest I was expecting an integrated battery. Semi-integrated batteries cannot be considered as the latest version of e-bike batteries, plus they don’t fulfill expectations when it comes to design concerns. But they are definitely more useful.

The 48V 14 ah battery RadRover 6 features is not the best or worst on the market. When it comes to capacity I can say that not much has changed since the previous model. One thing that has changed though is the image.

With 600-650W mentioned above you can reach 27.6 miles on pedal assist with an average 17.9 mph speed. Considering that the range depends on various factors including the terrain and even the rider’s weight, your range might be different than mine.  


Now, the fun parts. The good old display of Rad has been upgraded to a classy, user friendly one manufactured by Wuxing specially for Rad Power Bikes. Classy, huh? Also the dual display is very useful in my opinion since you can get all the information you need without having to scroll. The battery capacity and pedal assist level would be on your left handlebar (without percentage) and you will be able to view your speed level, mileage, motor power and etc. on the center.

Braking and Drive Train

This might be the biggest upgrade for RadRover 6 Plus compared to previous models. There is a historic moment, ladies and gentlemen, as we finally see hydraulic brakes on a Rad Power E-bike. Considering the performance of hydraulic brakes compared to mechanical disc ones, this is a huge difference. You get the idea.

The brakes are branded JAK, a confirmed manufacturer of Rad Power Bikes from China. Good, but not as good as known brands such as Tektro. Still the breaking performance is good enough to make you stop in 14′ 8” at 25 mph. For 20 mph speed it is 12′ 9”. Not bad at all.

The 7 speed drivetrain of RadRover 6 Plus is branded Shimano Altus which is an above standard one and you totally feel the difference at this point.

Riding & Geometry

As I mentioned Rad Power Bikes are one of the best when it comes to deliver comfortable, smooth rides. RadRover 6 Plus achieves this standard with its specially-built RST fork with 60mm travel. Now 60mm might not satisfy some riders but considering the purpose of this machine it is more than enough, trust me. If you seek for bigger travel you have to remember that this is not an e-MTB. Alongside the fork Juggernaut Kenda tires are also contributing to the comfort of the ride. But with an e-bike like this I would expect much more than Kenda.

Price & Value 

Priced at $1,999 , RadRover 6 Plus isn’t an affordable e-bike for sure. But you have to give that it provides a great performance for its price, with its technical specs and the comfort it brings to the ride. If you don’t need that much mileage, you can definitely consider RadRover 6 Plus.

Disadvantages: Rad Power RadRover 6 Plus Review

  • The motor is not that powerful.
  • There are e-bikes with better battery capacity.
  • Pricier than similar e-bikes.
  • Dual display sometimes confuse you until you get used to it.

One last word 

RadRover 6 Plus is not the next best thing, but it definitely raises the bar when it comes to the soft specs. But considering the performance for its price and their a-ma-zing customer service, I really think you should give it a go.
